Hard nuts - clever cracked

The size reduction machine manufacturers, WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH, Ilsfeld, have developed a new lone-shaft size reduction machine which is particularly suited for the economic size reduction of heavy chunks and dummy bar cakes with big dimensions.

With the new one-shaft size reduction machines of the WLK series big and heavy chunks and dummy bar cakes can even be reduced in size on machines with a relatively small rotor diameter and a small rotor width. This is made possible by the newly developed "Pipespacer", a particular formation of the funnel which considerably increases the engaging rotor surface and, thus, also permits the treatment and processing of bulk parts.

The material is fed through a funnel at the top of the machine, pushed against the revolving rotor by a hydraulically controlled and load-controlled slider and reduced in size between the cutting turning crowns mounted on the rotor circumference and a counter knife. The toothed rail which is integrated in the slide prevents a bridge building and cares for a controlled material supply. The reinforcement of the slider with an internal honeycomb structure also permits and allows the charging of very heavy chunks without causing any damage.

In general, this series if offered with an electric drive of 22 kW to 75 kW drive rating. The cutting turning crowns which can be turned in four ways possess a concave design and have an edge length of 40 mm x 40 mm. The sizes of granulated material to be achieved are at 20-100 mm depending on the sieve hole diameter. The achievable throughput rate is between 300-2,000 kg/h depending on the grain size and the material.

The preliminarily size-reduced material is carried off by a conveyor belt and reduced in size in a subsequent size reduction machine type NZ or SMW to the final grain size (<8 mm). As an option, a non-ferrous/ferrous separator for separating disturbing material or a metal detector is installed above the conveying belt. Even the connection with an existing cutting mill and/or a re-granulating plant is possible.
