Horizontal Feed – Size-Reduction of Profiles and Plates |

| The new Series WLK-H single-shaft shredder (Photo) manufactured by WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH, Ilsfeld/Germany, has been developed for grinding plastic flat or sheet or long plastic profiles, for instance window frame profiles that have been rejected during QC processes. These materials are conveyed to the rotor by means of a horizontal vibro-chute. The output is valuable granulate. |

For single-stage processing the machine is equipped with a cutting rotor and the material reduced to the final grain size in one step. For greater throughputs, processing is carried out more economically in two-stage machines equipped with a V rotor.
Material is fed into the machine via a downstream vibro-chute that is positioned horizontally, the batches of profiles to be ground are separated by means of vibration and advanced towards the in-feed roller.
This in-feed roller is held in a flexible suspension; it grips the material and forces it through the charging port (throat height is up to 150 mm), towards the cutting rotor, using hydraulic pressure with load-dependent controls. The design of the in-feed roller is adapted to the specific task: a chain conveyor is employed for size-reducing mainly profiles, a draw-in roller is used for predominantly flat or sheet material.
The horizontal feed facilitates the compact design of the shredder, enabling profiles of up to approx. 8 m in length and flat or sheet products of up to 150 mm thickness to be fed into the machine and size-reduced. The controlled feeding system ensures minimal power usage and maximum output.
The machine is designed to allow rapid clean down and screen changes as various materials and
colored products are shredded. The drive rating is between 18.5 kW and 160 kW; working widths are available from 400 mm to 2,000 mm. The speed range varies between 75 and 500 RPM according to the rotor version.
